Jawed Karim, the co-founder of Youtube met Chad Harley and Steve Chen while he was working in PayPal. In 2005, this trio created YouTube, an online portal where video files can be shared. It was Karim who posted the first video titled `Me at the Zoo’ on April 23, 2005. Now, this video has received 186 million views (https://youtu.be/jNQXAC9IVRw). From this small video community, Youtube grew to become the second-largest online search engine. YouTube enables the users to upload, download, view, share and comment on videos. By 2014, Youtube gained 800 million users. Besides, 300 hours of videos were uploaded every minute in 2014. Thus, the invention of Youtube changed the world of Information technology.
Mark Zuckerberg was a student at Harvard University. His early institution named Philips Exeter Academy had its student directory, which they named `Facebook’. Inspiring that idea, Zuckerberg created a directory for Harvard in a dorm room at college. It was a platform where students can enter their information and photos into a template. His roommate Dustin Moskovitz added some more features and made it available to other college students too. Thus, the platform gained wide acceptance by 2004. Facebook expanded all over the world and had more than 1.65 billion active users by 2016. The success of Facebook made Zuckerberg a billionaire. He maintained his position on Time magazine’s list of 100 wealthiest people in the world and became one of the world's most powerful people according to Forbes list. Still, Facebook is holding its position with Instagram as one of the popular social networking sites where you can create profiles, upload pictures, and connect with others.
Jack Dorsey had a miserable childhood due to his stammer but eventually, he got rid of that by participating in oratory competitions. But, his college days were thriving as it was the time when he got the idea of sharing short messages and updates with friends. Like many technology enthusiasts, he also dropped his studies from New York University. He founded Twitter with his friends Noah Glass, Biz Stone, and Evan Williams on March 21, 2006. Twitter enabled users to post and react to 140 character messages called `tweets. It was equally used by common people, celebrities, governments and organizations to give updates on trending issues like elections. By March 2016, this online app has gained 310 million monthly active users however Twitter was suspended on November 22, 2016, due to some internal mistakes and was restored soon.
