The animal world is fully repleted with numerous animals but many of them possess strange qualities or are rarely found. And, this article is going to surprise you with 5 cool and weird animals 1. Aardvark 2. Dugong 3. Echidna 4. Jerboa 5. Fire Salamanders. These animals are considered as strange mostly due to the bizarre in their visible peculiarities. Ironically, human is the social animal that’s behaving most weirdly hence this article is only dealing with animals with noticeable bodily specialties.

 

  1. Aardvark

Aardvark with the scientific name ' Orycteropus Afer' can be only found in Sub-Saharan Africa. They have noses like a pig, ears like a rabbit, tail like a kangaroo, and the size of a dog. Since they can’t be found during the daytime they are the ones among the least known mammals in this world. Ants and termites are its common food and thus came to be known as ‘Ant  Bear’ along with the name ‘Earth Pig’ due to its pig nose. Even though they can’t be found easily, they’re not included in the list of extinct species.

 

  1. Dugong

Dugong dugon is its scientific name whereas widely known as ‘Sea cow’ and ‘Sea camel’. As the name suggests, they look familiar with cows and also eat vegetarian foods like grass and other plants in the sea. The dugong is a marine mammal that can be seen in the Indo-Pacific oceans. They look like hydriad with glossy bodies, hand-like flippers, and flattened feet. Although they have a high lifetime of around 70 years, they are often trapped while fishing.

 

  1. Echidna

Echidnas are the animals that are named after a creature in Greek Mythology which was known as ‘Mother of Monsters’. Echidna is one of the two mammals that can lay eggs(another one is Platypus). They can only be found in Australia and New Guinea having spines all over the body and thus came to be known as ‘Spine Anteater'. The bag-like coverage under the body helps in the protection of laid eggs and the hatched ones continue to be in that coverage for even 2 months.

 

  1. Jerboa

‘Euchoreutes naso’ is the scientific name of Jerboa that belongs to the family of Rodents. These small-sized animals are different as they can’t walk normally but in a shambling manner. There are 33 types of Jerboa whereas they’re vastly seen in African and Asian deserts. Long-eared Jerboas seen in the northwest of China have ears of length more than their body whereas the normal Jerboa type too has long ears along with long legs and tail.  Jerboas never drink water but hydrate their body through the food that includes plants, worms, etc.

 

  1. Fire Salamander

Salamanders are amphibians that look alike lizards and it is assumed that they can defend against fire. Among the five families of salamanders, fire salamanders are the ferocious ones. Though their body is attractive yellow and black, they can hawk poison that comes from the poison gland in the tail. The small-sized preys that got smothered by this poison are the food for salamanders. Fire salamanders with the scientific name ‘Salamandra salamandra’ remain in forest and mountain areas widely seen in Africa and Europe.
